I wanted to black out the taillights by painting the insides black (all the chrome parts). Unfortunately, it seems impossible to separate (open) the taillights to be able to do that.

Undecided about how I was going to proceed, I decided to try VHT Nite Shades. My reasoning was that if it didn’t come out the way I liked, I could always do vinyl afterward.

Fortunately, VHT was pretty easy to use, just make sure that you are in a dust free area and you apply in light coats. I only needed three coats about 5 minutes apart to achieve the look I got.

I know some people have put clearcoat on the lens after finishing up with VHT.  I didn’t do it, because the finish was pretty nice on it’s own, the only reason would be protection, but idk.

If anyone has any more info on the clearcoat deal, let me know.
